DEWALT 20V MAX XR DCD805B brushless compact hammer drill delivers up to 40% more power, 2-speed control, and hammer mode for masonry in a 7-in package.
Categories : tools
SKU : WOR-TOO-304
The DEWALT 20V MAX XR DCD805B Hammer Drill is the cordless workhorse for professionals and serious DIYers. Its brushless motor produces up to 40% more UWO than the DCD796, while the compact 7-in. profile fits into stud bays and tight cabinets. This bare tool runs on any 20V MAX battery and adds a hammer mode that drives up to 34,000 BPM for masonry drilling.
To use hammer mode, rotate the mode selector to the hammer-drill position. Install a carbide-tipped masonry bit, then choose speed 2 (0–2,000 RPM) for most holes. Start with light pressure and let the bit cut; use a steady, moderate feed rate. For brick, a lower speed and a fresh carbide bit will reduce bit bounce and produce a cleaner hole.

Start the hole with the drill in hammer mode at a low trigger setting. Use a sharp carbide-tipped bit and let the hammer action do the cutting. For larger holes, you can begin with a smaller pilot bit to make the final bit easier to control.
For maximum runtime, pair the DCD805B with a DEWALT DCB205 20V MAX battery or a POWERSTACK battery. The brushless motor gets the most out of each charge.
At just 7 inches long, this drill fits between studs and inside cabinets. The lightweight design reduces fatigue during overhead drilling, and the LED helps you see the work surface in dim spaces.
Rotate the mode selector ring to the hammer drill icon, insert a carbide masonry bit, and choose speed 2 for most concrete drilling. Start with light pressure and let the bit work.
Use speed 2 (0-2,000 RPM) for most holes; reduce trigger pressure if the bit binds. For very hard concrete, lower speeds can help extend bit life.
Carbide-tipped masonry bits (e.g., DEWALT Masonry Drill Bits) designed for hammer drilling. Avoid using standard metal drills.
No, it is a bare tool. Use DEWALT 20V MAX or POWERSTACK batteries (sold separately).
Yes, switch to the non-hammer driver mode and use speed 1 for fastening screws. The clutch settings provide extra control.

Beast in a small package.
This little drill has more power than my old corded one. The hammer mode punched through concrete block easily.
I bought this for DIY, and I'm impressed. It's compact enough for overhead work, and the grip is comfortable. The only downside is the battery drain – with the 20V battery it goes fast in hammer mode. But if you have bigger batteries, it's a beast. I'd recommend it for anyone who needs a portable hammer drill.
I do HVAC and this drill has replaced my bigger one for 90% of tasks. The chuck is metal and holds bits tight. Weight is well balanced. I've dropped it off a ladder twice and it's still perfect. This is my go-to now.
I used it to drill 100 holes in brick. It did fine with a decent bit. The battery life isn't great, but I have spares. The compact size is a huge plus. If you need a workhorse, this is it.
The drill itself is good, but as a bare tool it should come with a battery. I had to buy one separately and it drained fast. Maybe I expected more for the price.
I've been using drills for over fifty years, and this one is the best I've owned. It's light enough for me to handle, and it has all the power I need for wood and light masonry. The variable speed is smooth and the trigger feels good. I bought it as a bare tool because I already have batteries, and that saved me money. Highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates quality.
It works well, but the chuck occasionally slips when I'm driving screws. Maybe I need to tighten it more. It's a great drill overall.
This thing is small but it doesn’t joke around. I was drilling through treated lumber and it didn’t stall. My old drill would have struggled. Five stars.
It delivers the power and the size is perfect for tight spots. The hammer mode is effective. I only wish it came with a side handle, but it's not a deal breaker.
Good drill, decent power, but the chuck is a little plasticky.
