The fuel gauge on the DCB205 is more than a status display. When the LED blinks red, the battery's internal protection circuit is preventing charging due to temperature or short circuit. Place the battery on a non-flammable surface and let it acclimate for 30 minutes, then try again. If it still flashes red, contact customer support.
For best runtime, store the battery in a cool, dry place and charge it before the fuel gauge reaches zero. Lithium-ion cells don't need full discharge; partial charges are fine. Avoid leaving the battery on the charger for months at a time.
If you rely on saws, grinders, or high-output tools, going from a 2Ah to a 5Ah battery cuts charging stops dramatically. The 5Ah pack also maintains higher voltage under load, so your tool delivers more consistent power.
A flashing red LED usually means the battery is outside its operating temperature range or the charger detected a fault. Let it cool to room temperature, clean the contacts, and charge again. If it continues, contact DEWALT support.
