With a capacity of 18-gauge steel and 0-2,300 strokes per minute, the DCS496B makes quick work of ductwork, flashing, and metal stud work. The offset design keeps your hand clear of the cut line and lets you see the work area better.
The head rotates a full 360° with no tools needed, so you can steer the shear through curved and circular cuts smoothly. This is a major advantage when cutting around outlets, bends, or when following an existing line.
Thanks to the offset geometry, the DCS496B can pivot with a minimum radius of 1 inch, making it easy to start and maintain circles. It also cuts through 20-gauge spiral duct seams cleanly, saving you time on HVAC projects.
As a bare tool, the DCS496B works with any DEWALT 20V MAX battery—from compact 2Ah packs to high-capacity XR cells. Choose the battery size that matches your day. Use any DEWALT 20V MAX charger (such as the DCB112 or DCB118) to keep it powered.

Standard shears force you to work with your hand above the metal, which can block sightlines and make curves feel clumsy. The DCS496B's offset head keeps your hand to the side, giving you a clearer view of the cut line and better control when steering into tight spots.
Mark your circle on the steel and position the shear so the swivel head can pivot around the center. Cut slowly at first, using the offset handle to guide the tool around the curve. Practice on scrap to get a feel for the minimum radius.

I'm an HVAC technician and I cut sheet metal daily. This cordless shear has greatly reduced hand fatigue. The offset head makes it easy to cut along studs. The battery life is reasonable for a tool this powerful. The little circles are easy once you get the hang. It's not cheap, but it's a timesaver.
