The RIDGID 19238 NaviTrack Scout Locator is a serious tool for plumbers, electricians, and property managers who need to find what's buried before they dig. This underground pipe and cable locator works with SeeSnake cameras, remote transmitters, and flushable sondes to trace pipes, cables, and energized lines. Its multi-directional antenna detects signals from all directions, which means fewer false peaks and more accurate depth readings.
With 4 Sonde and 5 Line trace frequencies, the Scout adapts to many different locating situations. The digital readout shows signal strength in real time, and micro-mapping displays front/back markers so you can pinpoint exactly where the target lies. Depth calculations appear automatically when you're directly overhead, helping you avoid unexpected hits.
If you're getting inconsistent signals or no signal at all, start with the basics: check that the batteries are installed correctly and have enough power, verify the transmitter is connected or the sonde is emitting, and ensure you're using the correct frequency for the system you're tracing. The operator's manual included in the box covers troubleshooting steps, and the informational video gets you up to speed quickly.
The Scout runs on four C-cell batteries, which are included. To replace them, open the battery compartment on the rear, remove the old cells, and insert new ones following the polarity diagram. Keeping fresh batteries in the Scout ensures you'll get consistent readings when you need them.

To get the best results, always select the right frequency for the target you're tracing. When using a sonde, keep the transmitter aligned with the camera head. For line tracing, connect the transmitter securely and follow the signal strength reading on the display. The multi-directional antenna means you don’t have to hold the locator at a perfect angle—it picks up the signal from any direction.
Check the battery level and battery contacts, make sure the correct frequency is selected, and verify the transmitter/sonde is working. Keep the locator away from large metal objects that can distort the signal.
Open the battery cover on the back, remove the four C-cells, and insert fresh ones with the correct polarity. Replace all batteries at the same time for best performance.
Yes, a printed operator’s manual and an instructional video are included in the box. You can also contact support for a digital copy.
Absolutely. The Scout is designed to work with SeeSnake inspection systems, including remote transmitters and flushable sondes.
Micro-mapping uses on-screen markers to show front and back positions around the target, helping you confirm exact locate points and avoid missing a pipe or cable.

Works well, but pricey.
I used it to locate my sprinkler lines. It found them quickly. The depth reading was accurate.
I'm a plumber and this locator has saved me hours. The multiple frequencies let me trace different pipes without switching tools. The antenna picks up signals even in tough soil. The screen is easy to read in sunlight. The battery life is good. My only complaint is the price, but for professional use it's worth it.
Solid tool.
I've been in the trades for 40 years. This locator is a good one.
I bought this for a DIY project to find my buried electrical cable. The instructions are a bit technical, but after watching a video it was easy. It pinpointed the cable within inches. The depth estimate was within a few inches too. I also used it to find my septic tank lid. Very satisfied. Would recommend to anyone needing to dig safely.
